Estimate paint, flooring, room area, moving costs, and appliance energy usage for your home.
Home & Household covers the practical math behind DIY projects. Estimate how much paint a room needs down to the gallon, work out how much flooring to order with waste factored in, and price a move by distance, home size, and crew β then measure any room's area and perimeter in feet or meters for carpet, trim, and furniture. The appliance energy calculator adds the running cost of the devices you use daily. Enter your measurements once and every estimate appears instantly, with a full breakdown you can copy or download for your project notes.
How much area does a gallon cover?
A standard gallon covers about 350 sq ft with one coat. Your total accounts for doors, windows, and the number of coats.
Do I include the ceiling in the estimate?
This calculator estimates wall area from length, width, and ceiling height, then subtracts doors and windows. If you are painting the ceiling too, add the room's floor area as a separate calculation and include it in your gallon total.
Why do doors and windows reduce the amount?
You are not painting those surfaces, so their area is subtracted from the wall total before converting to gallons. Count standard interior doors and double-hung windows as you measure them for the most accurate result.
Why add a waste factor?
Cutting planks, measuring mistakes, and damaged pieces mean you always need extra material. 10% is a common default.
